There’s no sugar coating it; starting a business is extremely hard work. There are a number of obstacles an entrepreneur faces from attracting customers, to managing their finances, to securing necessary resources and partnerships, to the uncontrollable events which interrupt our lives. It is very easy to become overwhelmed and forget important aspects of your business.

We have designed an organizational tool to help you, as an simple, entrepreneur, develop and refine your business (or business idea). It is the best first step towards writing a business plan.

In our last post (http://tsiba.blog.com/2011/10/26/the-art-of-business-plans/), we gave you a brief introduction to “Business Model Generation: A Handbook for Visionaries, Game Changers and Challengers” written by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur. They, with the help of 470 entrepreneurs from around the world, developed the concept of a “business model canvas” and identified the nine key building blocks of any successful business. Based on this work, we have developed auser-friendly version that is directed towards small business owners and entrepreneurs.
The instructions are simple: click on the link below, print out a copy, and answer the questions to the best of your ability. Remember to be as specific as possible - the more detailed your answers are, the easier your work will be later. As for the Business Model Canvas on page 2, it serves as your “Executive Summary” which you leave until you have addressed all nine sections. Once you have completed the nine, summarize your responses in bullet points on the canvas.
